How to make AI written content sound like you, not like everyone else
AI can draft. It cannot have your opinions. Here is the editing process that puts your firm back into the words.
The problem with AI content is not that it is wrong. It is that it is average. It reads like the midpoint of everything ever written on the topic, which is exactly the opposite of what a brand needs. Used well, though, a model removes the blank page and leaves you with the part only you can do.
Feed it the right things
- Your tone of voice, described in specifics: sentence length, formality, words you never use.
- Real client situations and outcomes, anonymised.
- Your actual opinions, including the ones your competitors would not say out loud.
- Three examples of your own writing that you were happy with.
The tells to edit out
- 'In today's fast paced world' and any other warm up paragraph before the point.
- Triads everywhere. Clear, concise and compelling. Once is fine. Every paragraph is a tell.
- Hedging. 'It is important to note that' usually means the sentence can go.
- Perfectly balanced structure where every section is the same length.
- A conclusion that restates the article instead of asking for something.
The 20 percent that makes it yours
Add one number only you have. Add one opinion you would defend in a meeting. Add one client moment. Cut the first paragraph. Rewrite the opening line so it could not have come from any other firm. That is usually 15 minutes of work and it is the difference between publishable and forgettable.
Let the model do the typing. Never let it do the thinking.
Set a standard and hold it
Agree one simple rule as a team: nothing goes out that a client could not tell was written by your firm. If a piece would work just as well with a competitor's logo on it, it is not ready.
